the important body

[translation from: het vege lijf]
In Saoudi Arabia another American was killed. It's all recorded on tape. Videotape I should say. Bush didn't buy the demands of the kidnappers (to let free all members of Al Qaeda out of prison). He said something like: we won't let intimidate ourselves by a bunch of extremistic criminals.
Suddenly I understood why you can always find bodyguards around him. Could you permit yourself this attitude as a president if you yourself would be hold hostage by those people? Let's say the US-president were to be kidnapped, would the vice-president then accept the demands? I mean we are speaking about the president; the most important person of the world as you can hear so often.
Maybe that's why they have these bodyguards: it's to avoid this dilemma that would be too hot to handle...

By the way, I think the existence of body guards is a curious phenomenon. They literally protect with their bodies the body of an important figure. A bodyguard says: if they shoot, I throw my body in front of yours. What he actually says with that is that his life is worth less then that of the person he is supposed to be protecting.
Or shouldn't I see it like that? Should I see bodyguards as a policy of deterrence that's really working?
As if you can't riddle a body of a bodyguard with bullets. As if you could stop someone who would really want to kill...

In The Netherlands the secretary of alien affairs (I hope this is a good translation - because to me it sounds to me as a person who handles things like ET) was smirched with ketchup by two activists. The secretary has reported it to the police. Ofcourse.
The two activists will get a fine, maybe they will be sent to prison. I think it will be the last, because I suppose the two will refuse to pay the fine, 'out of principal.' When you give money you are a coward. When you go to prison you are the hero in your extremist-left wing group. Than you are cool. But you know what's really cool? Sabotaging the doors of the deportation centers with your own body. Trespassing the grounds of air base Volkel to ask attention for the nuclear weapons that are stored there - that is cool, that is having guts, that is having principals.
